This was the conversion of a black house – a traditional dwelling for crofters in the hedbrides. KDA was appointed to complete the work of two formerly appointed architects who had managed to obtain planning consent.
The brief required re-designing the interior and proviing construction detailing for the conversion. Everything had to be design so that it could be brought to the island on the back of a small truck on the bi-weekly ferry service.
The conversion eventually won the best house conversion in the Guardian and Homebuilding Best House in Great Britain 2013.
